About
Jordan Eddy is a New Mexico–based writer, editor, and curator who investigates contemporary art and culture in the American Southwest and northern Mexico, with particular attention to regional identity, queer and Indigenous histories, and the politics of place.
As editor-in-chief of Southwest Contemporary, he commissions and shapes reporting and criticism across the region, connecting hyperlocal scenes to national and international conversations. His writing has appeared in Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, Art Papers, New Mexico Magazine, and the Santa Fe New Mexican, among other publications. A Santa Fean since 2012, he has held curatorial and leadership roles in the art capital’s gallery and museum ecosystem, and co-founded a project space and incubator for emerging artists and writers. Since his early days as an art blogger—which landed him his first museum internship in his home state of Oregon—Jordan has pursued stories in which contemporary subjects tangle with historical figures.
One of his favorite quotes, which inspired his curatorial projects Queer Magnetism and Family Room: Queer Domestic Space and the Chosen Family, is by George Chauncey: “We should never presume the absence of something before we have looked for it.”
